Sliced Red Apple

For some reason, this painting reminds me of Snow White.  The red apple obviously, but I think it's because I set it against the stark grey and white.  I was able to loosen up a bit painting this, and I think it has some wonderful moments.  I still can't seem to find a location in our new house that gives great pictures.  I'll have to keep working on that!

Clementines and a Knife

I sat down to paint yesterday, but after two hours I had to scrap what I was working on and start over.  I read a few artists' perspective on "blocks" several days ago on Daily Paintworks (worth reading even if you aren't in the middle of a block, you will be one day!).  While I would consider myself to be more just rusty than blocked right now, it was very helpful.  Someone said to go back to an old standby, something you are familiar with and love to paint, so I did.  I swapped the vase for something silver and reflective, and all of a sudden I was feeling it!  Even though the clementines were in almost the exact same position, I found a hint of my old groove again.  This picture reads a bit more blue in the background than the actual peice, but this was as close as I could get with the camera.

Polka Dot Lemons

We've moved!  Ok, we moved in November, but it has taken me 3 1/2 months to get everything unpacked and put away.  Not to mention all the house painting and "characterizing" (adding molding  woodwork, paneling, details...).  Anyway, I finally have my studio in functioning order, and can finally balance painting the house with painting pictures.  I can't wait to get back in the swing of things.  Here is my first painting after my time off!
